My Kite

Posted by Kim on Saturday Jun 1, 2013 Under Photoetry

Lately my days are full of realizations. I am a witness to the entire world opening and changing before you. I quietly watch as you discover the smallest things that bring the greatest excitement, like a roly-poly under a rock, a new bloom on a plant, or which way is right and which way is left. All of these things are huge in your eyes. As much as the world is exploding wide open for you, it is for me too.  You are my new eyes. I see the world through you. There is such wonder and it’s clearer and brighter than ever before. A new lens that makes me young. Makes me see things I would never have seen otherwise. Makes me appreciate the life I so absently overlook as I walk around in my adult world, doing important adult things, and thinking all my smart adult thoughts. You are refreshing and young and constantly remind me to look and live with purity and happiness and love. To see what’s really important and to not take things so seriously, but rather learn and grow and be ever changing. I have come to realize that the “you” in this relationship is so much more important than the “me.” That as much as I think you need me, I need you a thousand times more. That as much as I think you are learning from me, you are truly the one teaching. That as much fun can be crammed into your days, you, my boy, bring all the joy into mine. And as sad as I am to see you growing into an individual and becoming so completely independent of me, I’m utterly blown away with pride and over flowing with this love that is seamless and boundless. You are my kite.

“I see children as kites. You spend a lifetime trying to get them off the ground. You run with them until you’re both breathless…they crash…you add a longer tail…they hit the rooftop…you pluck them out the spout. You patch and comfort, adjust and teach. You watch them lifted by the wind and assure them that someday they’ll fly. Finally, they are airborne, but they need more string and you keep letting it out. With each twist of the ball of twine, there is a sadness that goes with the joy because the kite becomes more distant, and somehow you know that it won’t be long before that beautiful creature will snap the lifeline that bound you together and soar as it was meant to soar…free and alone. Only then do you know that you did your job.”  -Erma Bombeck

My World

Posted by Kim on Monday Mar 4, 2013 Under Photoetry

“To the world you may be one, but to one you are the world.”

14 words that sum up how I feel.  No one could possibly understand a love like this until they have created a child.  I know because I was that person.  I’ve loved all my life.  All sorts of things and people, but nothing, absolutely nothing even comes close to the depth of this love in my heart since you slid into my life.  And while I’m fairly sure most parents feel this way about their child, deep down I still feel my love for you is way greater.  It’s impossible to describe.  You are my world…

even when trying to poke me with the fire iron

because there’s always warmth

even when sticking your dirty feet on the table

because there’s always a smile

even when playing with your food

because there’s always peace

even when throwing handfuls of mulch at me

because there’s always fun

even when pelting me with snowballs

because there’s always an angel

even when getting sprinkles everywhere

because there’s always something delicious

You are the world to me for 854,350,291,583,682,091 reasons.

I love you too much.

Every Single Day

Posted by Kim on Monday May 14, 2012 Under Photoetry

Here’s a day to celebrate, yet it’s no different than any other.

Because I celebrate you every day. Every. Single. Day.

Your smile. Your eyes. Your toes. Your laugh. Your voice. Your skin. Your fingers.

I celebrate all of you. Every. Single. Day.

I feel like the luckiest girl in the world. Every. Single. Day.

I can’t look at you or hear you or be near you without pausing quietly to say a thank you because you are mine.

Mine. My beautiful boy.

Mine. My Truzie Brown.

Mine. All mine. Every. Single. Day.

I love you too much!

It Takes Two

Posted by Kim on Wednesday Mar 28, 2012 Under Photoetry

It takes two to make a thing go right.
It takes two to make it outta sight.

But sometimes it’s fun to just fly solo.

No Place Like Home

Posted by Kim on Wednesday Feb 22, 2012 Under Photoetry

Our weekends are very typical. We wake up and smile at each other. We laugh and tickle and laugh and tickle. Then we get out of bed and move into the house. Robe on. Fresh diaper. Shades pulled.

Our weekends are very predictable. A cup of coffee. A cup of juice. Some sausage dipped in mustard and a piece of fruit. Start a load of clothes, maybe a load of dishes too. Then off to find our clothes.

This may sound very ordinary to most. We probably have no plans to go anywhere. Nothing new or exciting going on, but…oh, how splendid!
Every smile. Every giggle. Pure joy.

Every game. Every moment. Pure fun.

Running in the sun. Feeling a cool breeze. Pure beauty.

Our weekends are very magical. There’s no place like home…with you!

Thank You

Posted by Kim on Saturday Dec 17, 2011 Under Photoetry

This post is inspired by a favorite book of mine, The Secret of Saying Thanks, by Douglas Wood.
“The heart that gives thanks is a happy one, for we cannot feel thankful and unhappy at the same time. The more we say thanks, the more we find to be thankful for. And the more we find to be thankful for, the happier we become. We don’t give thanks because we’re happy. We are happy because we give thanks.”

Your Smile. My Heartbeat.

Posted by Kim on Tuesday Oct 11, 2011 Under Photoetry

Your smile is my heartbeat. I’m instantly younger and happier. A child myself.

You play and my whole world lifts. It shines and sparkles and everything is rainbows and butterflies.

You think and all is possible. In quiet concentration with secrets all your own.

Beautiful

Posted by Kim on Saturday Sep 17, 2011 Under Photoetry

There are not many reasons I give up moments with you, Tru, but I just had my first night away.  Yikes!

One thing I have learned is how precious moments are.  How few we really have.  And how very fast they slip by.  There was a beautiful moment in my niece, Emily’s, life that I just had to be apart of…her wedding day.  So, I left.  I kissed you bye and I drove away.  Far, far away.  Millions of miles away in love miles.  So far, in fact, that my heart didn’t beat quite right.  But I’d have you know, it was a beautiful day of beautiful moments.

A beautiful bride.
