There is nothing that can take place of time with Daddy.

Daddy reigns.

Period.

Since you were able to reach, you go to him.

Since you were able to talk, you ask for him.

Since you were able to walk, you run to him.

And I get it. I really do.

He heals your wounds.

He turns your tears to laughter.

He takes any problem and solves it.

He has done the same for me. That is just the nature of his heart.

He spends his time thinking of ways to make your life better.

Ways to make your world bigger.

He makes ordinary, extraordinary.

And you know this. You know he would do anything for you without you even needing to ask.

You two have an unyielding love and bond that is the most beautiful thing in life.

You have gone from one extreme to another. It has been pretty drastic. Your brain has grown and grown. And it has been an amazing ride!

You like me being there, but you crave your independence. You have kept me at an arm’s distance away. When I would see you in the hall you would rather just wave, but you tolerated my squeezes. You did not love the idea of me having lunch with you, so I only visited one time. And you did not let me go on your first field trip to sing Christmas songs at the nursing home. But, I am glad you are like that. I totally respect that. You are your own person. Confident in your own skin. Comfortable with your self. Ready to do what you need to do. I would not want it any other way. You rock!

Boo hoo!!

It is your Kindergarten celebration, or festival, as you called it.

It is bitter sweet. What an amazing year. You walked into your Kindergarten classroom and jumped right in. You have loved school. I mean loved it. You have soaked every bit of it up. Your brain a sponge. You have made friends. You have grown into a really good reader. You solve math problems. You blow my mind. You always do. Since you were born, every day you prove to me that life is amazing. You were born with magic in your heart. You cast a spell on me and my life seems to good to be true. Your laughter is contagious. Your sense of humor so quick. And your compassion so deep.

I am ridiculously proud of you. I am your biggest fan. Well, I thought I was until I saw your best little friend, Zoey, clapping for you when your name was called. She almost bounced off the rug. I know that feeling. It took all I had to stay in my seat. I wanted to jump up and down. Scream at the top of my lungs. Laugh and cry. Because you are just so awesome.

I squeezed you real tight because you are the most awesome thing in the world.

Nothing could be better than that.

Watching you grow is the best part of my life.

Remember the soft touch.

Remember the boy smell.

Remember the squishy body.

Feel the warmth.

Because just yesterday we held you up and helped you jump the waves.

Today, you jump them all on your own.

Today, you attack them.

Fearless, you jump right in.

Just yesterday you played with sticks.

Today, you play with swords.

Just yesterday you figured out how to spray the water hose.

Today, you spray Lilu.

Just yesterday you scribbled with markers.

Today, you paint masterpieces.

You even do homework!

Just yesterday you got an iPad.

Today you have your own gaming system.

Just yesterday you were eating chocolate ice cream with a toy dinosaur.

Today you are eating with grown up sized silverware.

Just yesterday you dyed your first Easter eggs.

Today, you dyed some more.

Just yesterday I bounced you on the trampoline.

Today, you run that thing.

Just yesterday little Byte waited patiently for a Dorito.

Today, Lilu helps herself.

Just yesterday you got Lilu.

You guys became instant buddies.

You gave her kisses.

Today, you still give her sweet kisses.

And you are still best buds.

Just yesterday we met your little feet.

Those feet you like to do everything with.

We love those little feet.

Just yesterday you helped with the yard work.

And today you helped with the yard work.

Just yesterday you looked at books.

And looked at books.

Now today, you read books.

You have grown and changed so much, yet in many ways you have stayed exactly the same.

Every day you are Tru. The same, but different.

And all of it has been magical.

What a year!

Your first year in school has been so full.

Full of learning. Full of friends. And full of firsts.

You have gone from learning your alphabet to reading level 6 books.

You have gone from writing the alphabet to writing stories.

You have gone from learning numbers to adding and skip counting.

Do not get me wrong. I knew you were smart, but this explosion of knowledge has shocked me. You have worked hard and have been determined to do it all. Your teacher has told me all year how you listen to everything she says and take it all in. It is only fitting that you be recognized in the award ceremony for Effort. That sounds exactly right!
