Tank You, Daddy

Posted by Kim on Friday Jul 1, 2016 Under Photoetry

Some days, most days, I feel like I am doing it all wrong. I feel like this privilege of being your mom is too great for me.

Then Daddy comes along and makes it all so beautiful.

He makes being a parent easy.

He brings the calm. He brings the clarity. He brings the spirit.

Whenever I am doubtful, I look to him and he makes it all make sense.

Daddy is the very essence of unconditional love.

He connects with you and keeps the focus on you.

On growing you and nurturing you.

On expanding your horizons and deepening your understanding.

He is all about teaching you, but in the most exploratory, hands-on way.

He breathes life right into this family.

I recently read that the best we can do for our children, is to be the adults we hope they will become.

I hope you become just like your daddy.

I love you too much!

Day Trip: South Port, NC

Posted by Kim on Sunday Jun 19, 2016 Under First

We loaded up and off we went north to South Port and spent the day with Aunt Debbie, Uncle Steve, and Lilly.

We managed to do it all in one day…

cookout…poolside (your first ever), swim, playground, ice cream, pizza, and games. With balloons, no doubt.

What a gorgeous day! Chock full of splashing, laughing, and loving.

Oh the wind! It followed us all day long.

Pushed through the trees.

Brushed the water’s surface.

Competed with the sun to get our attention.

How? You wonder. How can Aunt Debbie hold a 50 pound man????

We retreated into the shade of the playground.

You said this swing was an adult’s dream come true.

Aunt Debbie sure liked it.

I took at least 50 pics to catch one where I got your face.

Ah-ha! I caught you fixing your shoes.

We couldn’t resist the beautiful palm trees.

They were begging to have their pictures taken.

We played the whole way to the car.

Who needs a ball when you have a balloon?

Of course it blew away. 🙁

So the wind won after all.

I love you too much!

Beauty Sleep(er)

Posted by Kim on Friday Jun 10, 2016 Under Tru Moments

I read this poem this morning and cried.

I Woke

I Woke

and crept

like a cat

on silent feet

about my own house –

to look

at you

while you were sleeping,

your hair

sprayed on the pillow,

your eyes

your body

safe and solitary,

and my doors

shut for your safety

and your comfort.

I did this

thinking I was intruding,

yet wanting to see

the most beautiful thing

that has ever been in my house.

-Mary Oliver

A couple little tears rolled down my cheeks.

I cried because the poet was speaking to me. For me.

Her words were there on the page perfectly describing the feeling I so often have and can not describe.

The feeling I can never put into words.

That tender moment when I look at you sound asleep and I am overcome with love and emotion.

That moment when everything in the world just feels perfect.

The beauty of that moment wells up in me and I am so completely grateful.

I love you too much!

The End of First

Posted by Kim on Friday Jun 3, 2016 Under First

All good things must come to an end.

And this year you have had in first grade, is one of them. Actually better than good.

Great! Awesome! Super! Perfect!!

First day:

Last day:

Your mind blows me away. You go from reading a few words a minute, to reading nearly 100.

From adding numbers to trying multiplication and division.

Your curiosity is refreshing. You come home and ask a million questions, but at school…

It’s a different story at school. You are all business. So focused. So serious.

You are self-motivated and do your homework on your own…which is absolutely wonderful!

You have some pretty sweet organizational skills and you keep up with all of your belongings…thank you!

You are a little too independent pushing me away when I try to sneak a hug…grrrr!

You have grown into quite the responsible student.

I love you too much!

All About That Fun

Posted by Kim on Friday May 27, 2016 Under Tru Moments

Field Day!

Because you know I’m all about that fun

‘Bout that fun, no trouble

I’m all about that fun

‘Bout that fun, no trouble

I’m all about that fun

‘Bout that fun, no trouble

I’m all about that fun

‘Bout that fun…fun…fun…fun

Yeah, it’s pretty clear, I ain’t no clown

But I can play it, play it, like I’m supposed to do

Cause I got that giggle giggle for all my friends to share

And all the funny jokes and fun games because I care

(Mrs. Fungaroli thought she was gonna squirt you……epic fail!)

(Pelican Poop…yum!)

(Grand Finale of water events!)

I’m bringing silly back

Go ‘head tell them perfect people that

No, I’m just playing, I know you think you’re drab

But I’m here to tell you…

Every laugh from you is perfect from the belly to the snort!

I love you too much!!

Tru Haiku: From Where I Stand

Posted by Kim on Saturday May 14, 2016 Under Tru Haiku

The landscape has changed

Lush, green, invigorating

Alive with freedom

A magical place

Tiny paths, wander along

Dream beyond the stars

You radiate light

I breathe deep and fill my heart

I love you too much!

What it Means

Posted by Kim on Sunday May 8, 2016 Under Photoetry, Tru Moments

What it means to me to be your mom…

It means scratches and marks all over the hardwood floors and dirty hand prints on the walls.

It means Lightning McQueen stickers on the refrigerator doors and chocolate smudges on the leather furniture.

It means playing like I am 7 years old, when clearly, I am not.

It means getting up to fix you a glass of water when I just got perfectly comfy in bed.

It means learning and playing LOTS of video games that I would NEVER play in a million years.

It means packing lunch when I really don’t feel like it.

It means being the butt of all the jokes, all the time.

Being your mom means having a home filled with tons of laughter and songs and dance. (I listen to the Five Nights at Freddy’s 1 song on repeat and the Minecraft song: 1 HOUR version “Girls Know How to Fight.”)

It means finding exquisite comfort and peace as we eat popcorn and watch a movie together on the couch with your little feet in my lap.

It also means feeling like I have stumbled across the fountain of youth and jump on a trampoline everyday and have epic Nerf battles.

Being your mom means getting excited when you are teaching me a new video game because you are so excited you that you jump up and down beside my computer and can not sit down. (And you cheer me on with really sweet compliments and words of encouragement even though I suck.)

It means having deep conversations with someone I respect and gaining a new perspective on life. Just yesterday you started a round of “Would You Rather” and asked me if I would rather have my house and no Tru or have Tru and no house? I immediately answered that I would give up everything if it meant not having my boy. You said, “Wow.” I asked why you were surprised and you said something along the lines that you only meant the house, not everything. I explained to you that none of it mattered if I did not have you. None of it. Then you posed question 2 – “Would you rather you be alive and not me or me alive and not you?” I answered, “You alive, not me.” And you quietly said, “That’s what I would want too.” 🙂

It also means feeling a sense of pride never imagined before. Any little achievement you make, is huge in my eyes. As a teacher I see all kids do all things. But to watch you experience something, touches a delicate part of my soul. It is a feeling of joy deep inside that bubbles up and over like champagne.

Being your mom means creating something more precious than even the Mona Lisa. Take that, da Vinci! You are a masterpiece. A living, breathing, piece of art designed by a greater love than mine alone.

It means having it all and loving it!

But, most of all it means the greatest honor life can bestow upon me is that of your mama.

Happy Mother’s Day!

I love you too much!!

Indigo Farms

Posted by Kim on Friday May 6, 2016 Under Tru Moments

Indigo Farms. A lovely, old place sitting back in the woods.

We go there all the time for lunch and to shop for fresh fruits and vegetables.

But today we went for your field trip and it was a whole new experience. 🙂

First of all…

the goats! I want a goat!

the hay ride! Escaping into the woods and rolling under the trees was today’s freedom.

Best of all…

picking strawberries! (and eating a few…get in my belly!)

Indigo Farms…always a treat.

I love you too much!

Q and A on the Trampoline

Posted by Kim on Thursday Apr 28, 2016 Under Tru Moments

We have lots of talks while jumping on the trampoline.

Talks about anything and everything.

This evening you asked, ” Mama, how many times does your heart beat in your life?”

“However many times God decides. He designed it,” I answered.

“Mama, how many times will mine beat?”

“I don’t know, but I hope a whole, whole lot. You’ve got a good heart.”

“Probably as many as Poppy. He’s like 80 and I’m just like him.”

“Let’s hope so. You are a little Poppy.”

(selfie with my camera)

I love you too much!
