And today I struggle to hold you.

Over half my size, our legs intertwine with every step I take.

I hold you every chance I get, which isn’t often.

I squeeze you tight because in a second you are off and running.

So much to do.

I want to pause and breathe it all in. Hold that breath.

Remember the soft touch.

Remember the boy smell.

Remember the squishy body.

Feel the warmth.

Because just yesterday we held you up and helped you jump the waves.

Today, you jump them all on your own.

Today, you attack them.

Fearless, you jump right in.

Just yesterday you played with sticks.

Today, you play with swords.

Just yesterday you figured out how to spray the water hose.

Today, you spray Lilu.

Just yesterday you scribbled with markers.

Today, you paint masterpieces.

You even do homework!

Just yesterday you got an iPad.

Today you have your own gaming system.

Just yesterday you were eating chocolate ice cream with a toy dinosaur.

Today you are eating with grown up sized silverware.

Just yesterday you dyed your first Easter eggs.

Today, you dyed some more.

Just yesterday I bounced you on the trampoline.

Today, you run that thing.

Just yesterday little Byte waited patiently for a Dorito.

Today, Lilu helps herself.

Just yesterday you got Lilu.

You guys became instant buddies.

You gave her kisses.

Today, you still give her sweet kisses.

And you are still best buds.

Just yesterday we met your little feet.

Those feet you like to do everything with.

We love those little feet.

Just yesterday you helped with the yard work.

And today you helped with the yard work.

Just yesterday you looked at books.

Now today, you read books.

You have grown and changed so much, yet in many ways you have stayed exactly the same.
